My story “Elevator Pitch for a Dystopian Young Adult Book” in Tiny Molecules begins, “The hero is not slender…”
Young adult novels had a very brief renaissance in the early 2000s, talking about meaningful, important issues. And then, suddenly, not one book could pass the Bechdel test. Two female characters, talking about something other than a man? Absurd thought. This is my wish and hope for what young adult novels will look like in ten years.
