It’s pouring rain outside as the bus trundles down Pape Avenue.
I am watching her across the aisle. Her black burka covers her arms, thighs, breasts, shins, neck, lips. Glasses over her eyes.
Only her feet are visible.
Clad in flip-flops. Blue flip-flops. Glittery blue flip-flops. Clean and sparkling. And… there’s a thin line of mud running round each foot from ankle to toe.
She must have slipped off her immaculate flip-flops before she stepped into the mud puddle and slowly… twirled… to the beat of the rain.
