The rules of Write Club are simple: 2 opposing writers. 2 opposing ideas. 7 minutes apiece. Audience picks a winner. Writers compete for cash going to a charity of their choosing.
I’ll be competing on April 16 for the charity of my choice (Parkdale Project Read). This raucous celebration of words on paper could have existed a hundred, a thousand, hell, TWO thousand years ago. I am so excited by the movement in Toronto towards screen-free community. Board game cafes, evenings full of storytelling, and now two people standing on stage reading their words out loud. Simple, and yet the feeling of community is palpable.
And what do the kids of Degrassi Junior High think? Let’s find out.
